Overview
A Unity-based editor tool designed to allow the client to independently create and configure iOS staff training applications. The tool provided the core application framework, UI, settings, and systems, allowing the client to focus on producing the art and training content for individual modules. Training modules could be connected to the client’s existing LMS.
My Role
I was the sole developer on this project, responsible for the development and maintenance of the tool over approximately one year. I built both the runtime systems used by the resulting training applications, and the Unity Editor tooling used to create and configure their content.
My Contributions
- Developed the central training content system responsible for sequencing and playing module content during training.
- Designed the content system to support a wide range of content types, including audio, text, and game object control.
- Implemented back-navigation within the content system, allowing users to move backwards through previously played module content.
- Developed the module authoring tool within the Unity Editor, allowing users to add, remove, reorder, and configure individual content steps.
- Designed the module authoring system to support custom content step types, allowing developers to extend the system with new functionality while retaining full control over module authoring.
- Developed the chaperone avatar system, which provided an in-training character that delivered dialogue to the user during dialogue steps.
- Built a dedicated avatar creation and customisation editor tool, allowing new avatars to be created by importing character rigs and animations.
- Developed the application’s settings system and settings menu.
- Developed the main menu and training module menus.
- Implemented the application’s in-game UI and dialogue UI based on designs provided by the art team.
- Created additional supporting Unity Editor tools to streamline development and content creation workflows.
- Built the core tooling and runtime systems required for the client to create complete training applications without needing to develop the underlying application framework themselves.
